Job Description

Strathcona Regional District is currently seeking a highly motivated Environmental Services Coordinator. Reporting to the Manager of Community Services, the Environmental Services Coordinator possesses a high level of initiative and independent judgement and is interested in having oversight for a wide range of projects and services including: water, sewer, liquid waste management, solid waste disposal, transportation, street lighting, river bank protection, flood and storm water management.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATION

  • Graduation from a recognized technical institute with a diploma in civil engineering (or an alternative combination of education, training and experience).
  • Courses and experience in project management.

LICENCES, CERTIFICATES AND REGISTRATIONS

  • Valid BC Class 5 Drivers Licence.
  • Eligibility for membership in the Applied Science Technologies and Technicians of BC, Project Management Professional Certification or other associated professional association is preferred

Program Assistant - Aquatics, Full-time

Job Description

Strathcona Regional District has an opening for two full-time Program Assistants - Aquatics. Under the direction of the Aquatic Coordinator, the Program Assistant - Aquatics will provide direction and support to lifeguard and instructional staff. The Program Assistant – Aquatics will be the lead hand providing shift supervision and direction to on duty staff. It is the role of this position to ensure that staff are following established protocols, that the programs are operating safely, and the facility is properly prepared for the enjoyment and satisfaction of all patrons. The work also involves being part of regular lifeguarding rotations, teaching specialized and standard aquatic programs.

Successful candidates will be required to complete a criminal record check and become a member of the United Steel Workers, Local 1-1937. The current rate of pay for this position is $25.03 per hour.

REQUIRED EDUCATION

  •  Completion of grade 12
  •  One-year certificate in recreation, health & wellness, supervisory or leadership, business management or an equivalent combination of courses

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  •  Must be Lifeguard/Instructor III with leadership experience or equivalent combination of experience

REQUIRED LICENCES AND CERTIFICATES

  •  BCRPA Aquatic Fitness certificate or equivalent
  •  National Lifeguard award
  •  Water Safety Instructor award
  •  Lifesaving Instructor award
  •  Standard First Aid
  •  CPR Level C with AED (current within the year)

REQUIRED LICENCES AND CERTIFICATES WITHIN ONE YEAR OF HIRING

Candidates will have one year from the date of hiring into the position to attain the following additional certifications:

  •  National Lifeguard Instructor certificate/Recertification Conductor
  •  First Aid Instructor award
  •  Pool operator 1 certificate
  •  Pool operator 2 certificate

2018 Local Government Elections

The Strathcona Regional District is seeking applications from qualified individuals who wish to be considered for work as an election official during the upcoming local government and school trustee elections to be held in October of 2018.

To be considered for placement as an election official, individuals should have previous experience in federal, provincial or municipal elections. Successful candidates will be required to complete a training session and make an oath of office before taking up any election duties.

Customer Service Representative

Job Description

Strathcona Regional District is seeking up to two part-time Customer Service Representatives for Strathcona Gardens Recreation Complex. Reporting to the Manager of Aquatics and Administration the Customer Service Representative provides reception and cashier services. Excellent customer service, cash handling and problem-solving skills are essential in this position, along with the flexibility to work varied shifts including days, evenings and weekends. Hours are determined by program registrations and special events.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Courses including bookkeeping, office procedures and computer applications
• MS Office including Word, Excel & Outlook
• One year experience with cash handling, working with the public, electronic point of sale systems, keyboarding and switchboard operation
• Standard First Aid and CPR Level C with AED
• WHMIS certification

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
• Recreation Software/Facility Booking training

Job Description

Strathcona Regional District has an opening for a temporary full-time Lifeguard/Instructor for the Strathcona Gardens Recreation Complex for approximately 13 months or the return of the incumbent. Reporting to the Manager of Aquatics and Administration and working under the direction of the Aquatics/Fitness Coordinator, the Lifeguard/Instructor will assist with the safe operation of water-based events and programs. The Lifeguard/Instructor will focus on accident prevention and provide swim and fitness instruction in a team environment.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current National Lifeguard Service (NLS)
  • Current Red Cross Water Safety Swim Instructor (WSI)
  • Current Lifesaving Instructors Award
  • Current Aquatic Fitness Certificate
  • Current CPR C (taken within the last year)
  • Current Standard First Aid (SFA)

PREFERENCE WILL BE GIVEN TO CANDIDATES WITH THE FOLLOWING ADDITIONAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Previous successful experience in an aquatic facility
  • Lifeguard/Instructor I, II or III
  • Lifesaving Instructors Award
  • AED Certified
