Quathiaski Cove Sewage Local Service Area

The Strathcona Regional District owns and operates the Quathiaski Cove sanitary sewerage system on the west side of Quadra Island at Quathiaski Cove.  The sewerage system was established in response to a voter approved referendum in 1992/93 and formally established on May 30, 1994 with the passing of Bylaw No. 1588 for the collection, conveyance, treatment and disposal of sewage for lands within the area defined as the Quathiaski Cove Sewage Local Service Area.

The local Service Area Cover entails approximately 187 ha containing more than 125 individual properties, not all of which are developed, and a 32 lot strata development. Not all properties are or can be connected to the sewage collection system as it is only installed within the centrally developed area of Quathiaski Cove, servicing approximately 56 individual lots and 21 of strata lots, encompassing approximately 70 ha.

The Quathiaski Cove Community Sewerage System consists of: a sewage collection system, single sewage lift station, wastewater treatment plant which includes a primary sedimentation basin.  Rotating biological contractor (RBC), secondary clarifier, disinfection of secondary effluent using ultra-violet, flow measurement using a magnetic flow meter and a marine outfall.

The Quathiaski Cove wastewater treatment plant has been classified as a Small Wastewater System by the Environmental Operator Certification Program (EOCP).  The plant services an area population less than 500 people.  The plant operates under discharge Permit PE-12799 issued by the Ministry of Environment.
